Ms. Aquino nominates Jennifer Cattaneo as this week’s Senior of the Week for being a hard-working, smart and responsible young woman. She epitomizes those qualities we want in all of our students and she represents everything that is good about Vaca High students!  

 

This week’s Student of the Week, nominated by Mrs. Gittings, is Hannah Wirth. Hannah is very hard-working and focused on excellence. She goes above and beyond to get the job done. Hannah is an amazing VHS Bulldog!

 

The Performing Artist of the Week is Holly Anderson for her hard work on her high speed dance photography.

 

The Male Athletes of the Week are wrestlers Judson Sweaty for winning the last two tournaments and Jake Levengood because he’s a beast!

 

The Female Athletes of the Week are JV Cheer Captain, Corinne Reece and Drill team member Emily CymanskCorinne is the ideal squad member: hard-working, dedicated, and has a tremendous amount of school spirit. Emily gives 110% and has the love of drill team in her heart, she is an example of how hard work, dedication and commitment can propel you forward.

The summer 2016 Kaiser Permanente program in the Napa Solano area is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 13, 2016 and end on Friday, August 5, 2016. You must be the age of 16 or older by June 1, 2016. To apply for this 2016 summer program, a paper application must be completed and submitted by February 22, 2016. You can download all information and the application from schoolloop. –Torres

 

Seniors and Juniors – The A.S.V.A.B. (Armed Services vocational Aptitude Battery) will be held on February 23rd in the library from 8 AM-11:30 AM.  The test includes sections on mathematics, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, mechanical comprehension, and electronics.  Sign up in the Career Center with Mrs. Torres.

 

Attention sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have a G.P.A of 2.0 or higher:  Cabin Counselors are needed for outdoor education programs with ACE/Hemlock, Orchard, and Alamo Elementary Schools.  The programs take place at Exploring New Horizons Outdoor Schools at Sempervirens in the Santa Cruz Mountains.  For more information and applications please check school loop or you can visit the website at:   www.exploringnewhorizons.org.  Students need to bring their completed application to be interviewed on March 2nd after school in the library. -Torres

We all know wrestling at VHS is intense, and most of the wrestlers on the varsity team have a great deal of youth experience.  Maybe you wrestled at Jepson and want to pick up the sport again.  If this reality has caused you to think twice about wrestling for VHS, this is the club for you.  The Vacaville High School Wrestling coaches are offering a spring wrestling club experience for students in grades 9-12 who are interested in wrestling, but may have no or limited experience.  There will be no varsity wrestlers here.  There will be a lunch meeting in room 5 on Tuesday, February 9th

with Coach Azurdia.

This week’s Senior of the Week, nominated by Señor Lopez, is Rylie Campbell because she demonstrates the Proper Diligence and Grit to succeed academically and socially in class. 

Rylie sets the standard for success and is willing to tutor her fellow students creating an educational environment that is more friendly and caring.

 

This week’s Student of the Week, nominated by Mrs. Endicott, is Emilee Whitaker. Emilee is a wonderful addition to our French I class. She is bright, helpful, and doing a great job learning the language. She has truly been a pleasure to have as a student all year!

 

The Performing Artist of the Week, nominated by Ms. Parker, is Vanessa Conklin. Vanessa always has a positive attitude, helps out her section members whenever needed, and is an invaluable member of concert choir.

 

The Female Athlete of the Week is basketball player Bailee Aguigui because she gets better by the possession.  Bailee has done a remarkable job learning how to be a floor general and therefore put our team is the best possible position for success.  Playing Point Guard is a difficult task and through hard work, focus and determination, Bailee is excelling in the position.   Congrats Bailee for doing what you do for the betterment of our team.  We appreciate you!

 

This Male Athlete of the Week is basketball player Isiah Martinez.  Isiah has been great in the classroom, on the court, and has been a great leader in practice and in games.  Congrats to Isiah.

Have you wanted to try a sport but didn’t have the gear? Shanneil’s Locker invites you to apply for a scholarship to purchase your Adidas or Nike athletic footwear. If you’re interested, you must bring your parents to the Launch Party this Saturday, Feb 6 from noon until 3:00 at the Trower Center: 100 Holly Lane. In addition to learning about applying for that footwear scholarship, there will be lunch, games, Bounce House and prizes. –Admin

Umoja Program Scholars (UPS) actively serves students and promotes academic success for all, with a special emphasis on African-American students. VHS Visual Art Elective Survey

In recent surveys given during the WASC report we were made aware that students and parents at Vacaville High School have expressed interest in having more elective art classes offered.

 

Please take this survey and give us your input it would help us gauge interest in different programs and curriculum that we could potentially offer at Vaca High.

We are proud to announce that the Vacaville School District and Vacaville High School have been recognized by the AP College Board with placement on the 6th Annual AP® District Honor Roll for increasing access to AP course work while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.

SBAC Testing in VUSD

This Spring, VUSD Students in grades 3-8 and 11 will participate in the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAC) in English Language Arts and Math.
