Congratulations to Daniela Olvera, this week’s Student of the Week! Mr. Smith nominated Daniela because she is motivated in all of her classes. Although she is quiet, she is always on task and completing assignments in a timely manner. Daniela sets an example to her classmates by coming into class everyday ready to learn. She is always willing to participate when called upon and makes her best effort in everything she does.
Carly Martin is this week’s Senior of the Week. Mr. Bouwer raves, “Carly has quietly, diligently, and splendidly completed all her work for the Bark. Throughout her time on the newspaper, she stepped up whenever we needed someone to complete a last minute article. Congratulations on graduating early! The Bark will miss you!
Jordan Hoekwater is this week’s Artist of the Week. Mr. Clark selects Jordan because he is a great illustrator, a reliable student, and always willing to help others. Jordan helped design the VHS faculty family tree mural in the office. The mural will be finished before winter break.
Coach Al nominates the whole JV soccer team as this week’s Male Athletes of the Week! He states, being early in the season, relationships, structures, and team chemistry are all still young and being formed. This makes this task difficult to complete. However, what I can confirm is that all these boys (25 in total) are excellent role models and have impressed me with their maturity and demeanor. I am proud of their accomplishments and commitment.
Tonight, at Mary’s Pizza Shack, for every dollar you spend, the AVID Club will get 20 percent. If all you do is show up and buy a $3 soda, you just made us 60 cents. How can you not? See any of our AVID students or teachers for a flier that you need to show when you order. And bring all your friends!
The Library will be closed at lunch every Tuesday for the Fellowship Christian Athlete’s Club Meetings. It will still be open after school on Tuesday for students until 3:30.
The Robotics team is now into our second week of a globally imposed 6 week design and build deadline. Come past room 44 to watch your team design, build and program our 120 pound competition robot.
Be a hero and donate blood. Pick up a form in room 52 or the office. Blood Drive on January 31st! -Riley
The Counseling Department will be hosting a PSAT Results Workshop on Thursday, January 19th at 6pm in the VHS Library. Parents and students are invited to learn how to utilize recent PSAT results to improve future PSAT/SAT test scores. – Garcia

Contra Costa Medical Career College will be in the College, Career and Tutoring Center Thursday, January 19th, during PAWS and Lunch, to discuss their low tuition and accelerated certificated programs. Attention sophomores, juniors, and seniors: Cabin Counselors are needed for Sempervirens outdoor education program for multiple weeks this year. If you are responsible, enthusiastic, energetic, and would enjoy working with 6th graders, please apply for this week of fun and lasting memories! Seniors and Juniors – The A.S.V.A.B. (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) will be held on February 28th in the Library 8:00 A.M. The test includes sections on mathematics, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, mechanical comprehension, and electronics. Sign up with Mrs. Torres in the Library.

Vaca High's Sober Grad Nite is an elaborate all-night party of thoroughly entertaining proportions on the night of graduation, June 10, 2017, exclusively for the graduating class. This evening of fun is put on solely by volunteer parents and community members.
